Project description
Drexciya Redux submerges audiences into a digitally immersive experience of projection mapping and sound design based on mythological realm of Drexciya through both a stand alone responsive media installation and a cabaret of interdisciplinary performances and queer interruptions by an intergenerational contingent of Black artists activating the possibility of a new world.
Drexciya Redux: Immersive Installation is programmed and designed by Renegade Performance Group artistic director André M. Zachery with technical installation support from 3LD Art & Technology. It lives as a dynamic and responsive projection mapped environment on three surfaces (two perpendicular connected walls and the intersecting floor) within the sonic landscape of the album Deep Sea Dwellers by Drexciya. Attendees are able to walk inside and around the installation viewing coded iconography the Afro-Atlantic.
Drexciya Redux: Afrofuturist Cabaret is an 1h-long programme of four (4) interdisciplinary artists whose multimedia works dissolve the boundaries of genre creating an array of new ways to experience Black cultural performance. The host of the cabaret guides the audience through the realm being created whether they be new or fully entangled with Afrofuturism. For touring the intention is two have at least one of the performers be an artist local to the area of the presenting institution.
